Wind Power

Wind power is a great source of alternative power. When the sun heats up parts of the atmosphere the hot air rises and cooler air from other parts blow in to replace that air. This is how wind is produced. This wind is powerful enough to drive large fan blades. These blades are the blades of wind mills. They are attached to generators. When the blades rotate they turn the generator. The generator then produces power. This is wind power. Small generators of 8 to 11 feet can be assembled at home using kits available in the market.

Wind farms are set up in large flat areas where there is an uninterrupted flow of wind. There are many mills set up in a wind farm. Very often wind farms are set up offshore as offshore wind is more steady and stronger. Often in densely populated countries it is difficult to set up wind farms due to lack of space. For this reason offshore wind farms are very viable though there is a large setup and maintenance cost. In Europe because of dense population and presence of large and shallow water areas wind farms are much preferred.

Wind power is a great source of power. It helps in reducing the consumption of natural resources which is required to conventionally produce electricity. In this way it also keeps the environment les polluted. In thee days the environment needs to be a big concern and we can no longer be passive watchers. In our search for alternative sources of energy, we have made a great advancement in utilizing wind power.
